Express Entry 2026: Rules, CRS Score & Guide for Immigrants
How Express Entry works in 2026: the three programs, the CRS score and how to improve your chances.
Express Entry is Canada’s main system for skilled immigrants seeking permanent residence. It manages three programs and ranks candidates by points. Here’s how it works in 2026 and how to strengthen your profile.
The three programs
- Federal Skilled Worker (FSW) — for skilled professionals with foreign work experience.
- Canadian Experience Class (CEC) — for those with skilled Canadian work experience.
- Federal Skilled Trades (FST) — for qualified tradespeople.
The CRS score
Candidates receive a Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score based on age, education, language ability (English and/or French), work experience, and factors like a provincial nomination or a Canadian job offer. The highest-ranked candidates are invited to apply in regular draws.
How to improve your score
- Languages: a higher English test result — and strong French — can add significant points.
- Education: get an Educational Credential Assessment (ECA) for foreign diplomas.
- Provincial Nominee Program (PNP): a nomination adds 600 points, effectively guaranteeing an invitation.
- Category-based draws: certain occupations (healthcare, trades, STEM) and French speakers are targeted in special draws.
The process
- Confirm you qualify for one of the three programs.
- Get your ECA and language test results.
- Create your Express Entry profile.
- Receive an Invitation to Apply (ITA) if your score is high enough.
- Submit your full application with documents and fees.
Criteria and draw cut-offs change over time and can depend on your profile — always check the official IRCC information. If you’d like a clear plan, the Daitana concierge helps newcomers prepare and settle in.
