Work-and-Study Exchange in Canada 2026: How to Apply

Combining work and study is one of the most flexible ways to experience Canada and build a future here. Here are the main paths for newcomers in 2026.

Main options

  • College/university with a study permit — eligible students can work part-time during studies and may qualify for a Post-Graduation Work Permit afterward.
  • Co-op and internship programs — study programs that include paid work terms (a co-op work permit may be required).
  • Language school + work — improve your English or French; note that language-only programs usually don’t allow work, so check the rules.
  • International Experience Canada (IEC) — working-holiday permits for young people from countries with an agreement with Canada (availability varies by nationality).

How to apply

  1. Choose a program and a Designated Learning Institution (for study paths).
  2. Confirm work eligibility tied to your permit.
  3. Prepare proof of funds and language results.
  4. Apply through IRCC and plan your arrival.

Rules differ by program and nationality — verify the official requirements. The Daitana concierge helps newcomers plan the move and settle in.
